Great words Tony, and so much I can identify with, both modern i.e. Saturday, and historic i.e. the back to back relegations in the 70's were the first years of me supporting Palace as well. And sitting down on the steps at Stamford Bridge in '76 and sobbing after our semi final defeat. I thought my world had ended that day, but also thought that we would probably win it the following season instead. 49 years later.......... Great to see you on Tuesday, hopefully catch up again soon. Wayne

A Palace supporter ( from Melbourne, Australia,) from the “night “ i saw Don Rogers dismantle Man utd.

Got to see Palace win v Fulham, 77-78 at Fulham . Palace played at the Mcg a couple of years ago.

A quote from Arthur Daley tv show Minder . He described something as impossible “like seeing Palace play in Europe”.

A win for the Ages

Thanks Greg, I would love to see the Minder clip, it appears to have slipped into the rcesses of history. But yeah, it's been a short while. Lovely to hear from you in Melbourne. My South London/Crystal Palace fanatic friend Tim says there were 250 Palace fans in the pub in Sydney where he watched, and that at 4 in the morning! Cheers.

Hi Tony

Tracked down the episode

The son also rises 1982

Actual quote is “it’s about as likely as crystal palace winning the European cup”

Cheers

Well, based on the cost of PSG's squad and the fact that there is no actual European Cup any more, that one might hold for a while longer. Thanks for looking it up. Cheers.

Even as a Seagull I’m going to say it. Congratulations. Happy you got to Wembley and saw them lift the cup, Tony.

I went twice to see us ultimately lose to the other Manchester lot. We’ll be back there again, and so will you.

Thank you Ian, very gracious of you. I'm afraid Palace fans were singing "Have you ever seen Brighton lift a Cup?" last night at our victory match celebration.

The only thing I really know about the FA Cup is contained in the Monty Python sketch wherein Marx, Lenin and Mao are contestants on a quiz show- They are asked "Coventry City last won the FA Cup in what year?" and, when they don't answer, "That was in fact a trick question: Coventry City have NEVER won the FA Cup!" (thus paralleling my favorite NFL team, the Detroit Lions, who have NEVER won the Super Bowl).

However, you clearly can't say that about Crystal Palace.

It is a classic sketch, I remember it very very well. (As I do the match between ageing philosophers and an incontinence XI I believe it was.) Then again, Coventry CIty won the FA Cup in 1987 so that question would never hold. As you note, it won't against Palace going forwards either....

Thanks Paul. I believe you are in Manchester - did you have natural loyalties on Saturday? Either way, appreciate the love all fans showed for us.

As a United fan I certainly didn't want a City win! Plus Steve Coppell was a proper hero when I started watching United and it's been great seeing him again through his Palace connection.
