Good work, per usual, Tony. I came to PL fandom via *Fever Pitch,* so my heart belongs to Arsensal. (And, having written a bit about The Clash, I have a soft spot for the Gunner-related antics of Guy Stevens.) Over the past 5 years, whenever I needed some non-Gunner highlights, I gravitated often to CP, whose attacking style for years has carried plenty of flair and drama.

Thanks randal, this post connected with people beyond the Palace fans, which I had not expected. I am glad to know that CPFC have the reputation you award us, which I really don't believe was justified under Roy Hodgson, God bless him, or Tony Pulis, or... well, under a few managers to be honest. But we have always had flair and drama as a club and our share of colourful characters. Plus, the fans. And now, you have Eze and we march on. Cheers.

Fair play to you, mate. As a Liverpool fan it was a tough read but you thoroughly deserved the win. A quality team and a quality manager. I can take solace in that we won't be the only team to suffer at your hands. Good luck for the rest of the season 👍

Thanks Tommy. I mean Liverpool had only lost Palace once in previous 16 league meetings... I think that is why the victories are all the sweeter for us.

That stat surprised me, Tony - even under Hodgson it was always a tough game. Historically you have done some damage to us though. The 4-3 semifinal and the 3-3 that brought Suarez to tears and contributed to us not winning the league that year. On the plus side I'll always remember the 9-0 in Aldridge's last match!

It surprised me too but was true https://www.transfermarkt.us/vergleich/vereineBegegnungen/statistik/873_31

But of course the matches you mention are exactly the ones I mention in the opening para, the big results that dented dreams. AND the 9-0 that went your way and likely helped set you up for that last league trophy for 30 years.

On we go to the next one, mate - EFL cup. May the best team win 👍 As an aside; do you remember meeting a very good mate of mine, Phil Hopkins, at a Who convention? He ran a Who fanzine in the 90's called "Generations". A massive Who fan.

Why do people like sports? Sometimes for athletic beauty, but mostly it’s for unscripted drama. Enjoy the ride you’re getting this season — it’s great to see a non-megaclub crashing the party, and well deserved. (And surely whatever Sunderland has been smoking will wear off soon.) Kept looking for a buried Dave Clark pun here but didn’t spot one.

A Palace pundit and acquaintance once made an observation, heavily argued on a certain Palace pod, that beating Brighton (our rivals) made no more difference to the league position or points total than beating any other team, and I wanted to grab him and say "THAT'S NOT THE POINT(S)!" We are in this for the drama, some of it scripted - rival teams etc. - and some of it not, as when a Sunderland finds a new brand of wacky backy. Cheers!

You will lose him, Tony; it’s a sad state of affairs, but inevitable.

I just hope for his sake he doesn’t end up in the managerial graveyard currently masquerading as a football stadium in Stretford!

But while it lasts, this Palace run is incredibly exciting and reassuring, too, for it proves the old adage that when those 22 players and a ball take to the pitch, anything is possible, regardless of money, status, or legend.

I hope he stays with Palace for at least another couple of seasons…fingers crossed for you!

Ha-ha…! Tony, I’m a tad disappointed you haven’t, as yet, discerned my good taste, discernment, and, dare I say, elan. So, given all that, no, of course I’m not a City fan.

Born in North Manchester, so United it was, is, and ever will remain.

I just think Glasner, like Ragnick, Ten Hag, and now Amorim, we’re (are!) all decent blokes, and have been destroyed by our current malign state of being.

Of course, I want us to do well, but not at the expense of decency, which is why I hated Mourinho.

You will, without a shadow of a doubt, finish well above us in May.

PS Was at a family do in Ireland in May, with a Palace fan amongst our midst, and the biggest cheer of the day was when the final whistle blew at Wembley…we were all overjoyed for him, and, of course, we were, to a man (and woman) all Reds, so that made it very easy for us…ha-ha!

I appreciate that perspective from a Red. I know we feel the same way at Palace, we want to feel good about the people involved, which is why this is such a good moment for the club.

My ex was in a sports shop in Salt Lake City when the final whistle blew and messaged me to say everyone had gone crazy there as well... It was a universal moment of joy for underdogs world

wide.

Thanks Mark, I do not think we will lose Glasner before the end of the season. He has been vocal - highly vocal - about how the intensity surrounding Guehi and a certain Liverpool in the last transfer window and the strain it put on his marriage has rendered him unwilling to talk transfers until the next window. He has been equally clear that he is not ready to start discussing his contract with the club for similar reasons. Of course, things can change but one hopes he is too smart to drop down the division and take on a dysfunctional team and club. Meantime, we must all live in the moment, which is I wrote the piece. PS: Do I read from this that you are City?
