Hi Tony, I got here from the link you gave in the support group on Monday.

Thanks for this. An excellent piece which gets to the heart of tinnitus and the experience.

It sounds strange, but it's reassuring to hear your journey and where you've been and where you're going. I've been on that journey for over 30 years (a very loud electric violinist did for me initially) and have gone though many of the same type of thoughts and scenarios.

I play in a duo now with backing tracks where I can control the level. I had to give up the electric band and going to live gigs, and even now can't bear to be in a room when there's a loud band even with earplugs. A great pity but I guess I'm paying for deafening other people over the years ;)

Perhaps see you at the next meeting.

Cheers

Dick

Hello Dick, thank you for following through, hopefully you got to read the first post as well. It's important to tell our stories and recognize it's not all loud guitars and shaking one's head in the bass bins - that was one of many things i got out of the conversation. I am fortunate not to be quite in your scenario, but I will say that good acoustics are becoming increasingly important. Last night I was able to sit on the floor right up close to a small PA in our local guitar store for an acoustic guitar duo because the sound was clean, precise and the right volume. I love them, but working with the kids is the tough one!

And yes, hopefully I will keep attending these meets.

Cheers, Tony

Brilliant stuff Tony nice one!

Please have a look at my contribution to this problem. I help run a monthly online support group specifically for musicians via TinnitusUK

Thank you very much for coming on and sharing this Tim. As you'll have seen, I wrote about your co-leader (?) Jack and his own experiences and I mentioned the support group, when I searched around on Music Week for it I was taken to a page for a previous meeting so did not know it was monthly. I may join one, especially as I'll be spending the spring in the UK. Also your own interview linked above is excellent advice and if I post again on this subject, I'll plan to include it. Please stay on board here - it's good to have you.
