My intial reaction of "ugh, why should we care about a president's wife?", became "man, how many great leaders have we missed out on because they were women". A decade later, in the southern hemisphere, Eva Peron was influencing her husband to allow for women's unions and granting women the right to vote. I wonder if she was influenced by Eleanor.

It's fabulous that you are enjoying your new neighbourhood, I think you can gauge how good a place is by the number of 'magic moments' (as I call them) that occur daily - relatively simple moments usually, but magic all the same. Fascinating and poignant facts about FDR too, have to admit that I hadn't appreciated quite how much he achieved for the US.
Cheers Ben, I'm a big believer in the Kurt Vonnegut school of going out to buy an envelope because you interact with the world doing so. Something as small as a kid at a lemonade stand is important. Our lives have been set up to be so impersonal these days... Excellent post! Having been born, raised, and lived most of my life in the Hudson Valley, I’ve had the privilege of visiting the FDR Library and Val-Kill numerous times. They truly are invaluable resources.
I now live in Savannah, GA and the we are working to register young voters at the HBCU, Savannah State University, where, I work. We are facing massive challenges from right wing groups contesting these ballots. On the bright side, we have a unique follk artist, Panhandle Slim, whose Métier is painting important cultural figures, accompanied by a quote.
He has designed unique yard signs for Harris/Waltz that riff on the ubiquitous Waffle House chain in the South. I’ll post some photos below. Thanks, again for the engaging read

I can't explain why it took me so long to get to the FDR Museum, but when you live somewhere you tend to think there will always be an opportunity. I would have gone bck on Labor Day to use the second day ticket if only I had enough time in my life. But hey, the artwork you shared on my FB is tremendous. Stay strong down there, I did come to Savannah once to interview its most famous son. You should know the one I mean! Cheers.
Well, I've only been down here a couple of years, but it wasn't Flannery O'Connor or Johnny Mercer. I know Gregg Allman was born here. Clarence Thomas is the most (in) famous person I can think of!
